Carolina Housing is committed to providing convenient housing
that is secure, inclusive and supportive. Students create a home in
our on-campus communities, build life-long friendships and develop
skills for their current and future successes as they journey
through their Carolina experience.
In total, over 500 full-time, part-time, and student staff are
responsible for providing programs and services for 10,000
residents in 33 residence halls and 400 student family apartments.
The department manages 3.3 million square feet of residential space
and operates as an auxiliary generating annual revenue over $59
million including a year-round guest/conference operation. Carolina
Housing is in the midst of implementing its five-year strategic
plan and in the process of long-term capital planning that is
likely to include renovation and new construction.
As a member of the departmental leadership team, the Senior
Associate Director oversees all aspects of residential learning,
student conduct, training, selection, crisis management, summer
programs (summer school and orientation). The Senior Associate
Director directly supervises four Assistant Directors and
indirectly supervises four Program Coordinators, 18 Community
Directors and approximately 450 student staff members.
Collectively, the Residential Education unit is responsible for
comprehensive and innovative program development and the management
of 15 residential communities serving approximately 10,000
The Senior Associate Director is a primary connection with the
Carolina community to cultivate meaningful relationships with a
wide variety of campus partners in Academic Affairs, Student
Affairs and other areas of the Chapel Hill community.
